Festival d’opéra de Québec is back this year with enthralling world-class concerts and activities sure to enthrall music lovers and the general public.
Now in its 6th edition, the festival kicks off with a grand celebration under the stars featuring four of Quebec’s leading tenors. Audiences will get what may be their last chance to experience Michel Lemieux and Victor Pilon’s incredible production of Luc Plamondon and Michel Berger’s Starmania Opéra in Simon Leclerc’s brilliant adaptation. The sensational cast featuring Marie-Josée Lord, Marc Hervieux, and Lyne Fortin is back as well.
We’re especially proud this year to be launching an opera studio for young singers from the Quebec City Conservatory of Music and the Faculty of Music at Université Laval. These gifted future household names will show audiences what they can do in a Mozart and Salieri double feature program.
Les Violons du Roy and Bernard Labadie will also be in on the festivities with a concert with one of Europe’s hottest Baroque stars, French countertenor Christophe Dumaux.
The Festival hasn’t forgotten its “traditions” either: La brigade lyrique will again be popping up at various hotspots around town with an all-new team, and musical aperitifs will again be served at the Chapel in Musée de l’Amérique francophone, this year courtesy of composer Charles Gounod. The Festival’s family program returns with a legendary tale of Ancient Egypt, sung and played by young artists age 12 to 18. This 6th annual Festival winds up with a glorious fireworks display over the St. Lawrence River set to music from the opera and presented by Les Grands Feux Loto-Québec.
See you soon at Canada’s one-of-a-kind celebration of the operatic arts!
